Board-Up and Temporary Protection Services

When a window, door or section of a building is damaged, the first goal is to make the property safe and closed up again. Below is how board-up and temporary protection typically work.

Window and door openings

A broken window or damaged door leaves the property open to weather, animals and unauthorized entry. Board-up secures the opening with panels cut to fit so the building stays protected until glass, doors or frames are repaired or replaced. Broken glass and sharp debris around the opening need to be cleared safely first.

Storm and impact damage

Wind, hail, falling tree limbs and vehicle impact can expose interior spaces and weaken the framing around an opening. Photograph the affected areas first, stay away from anything that looks unstable, and coordinate safe next steps with your insurance company and your repair contractor.

Temporary protection

Board-up is a temporary measure, not a permanent repair. The materials used, local rules and the follow-up repairs depend on the property, and boards are normally removed once permanent repairs are made. Plan the repair work early so the temporary protection does not stay in place longer than necessary.

Board-up and your insurance

Document the damage with photos or video before any cleanup or temporary repairs, keep receipts and contact your insurance company early. Your policy determines what is covered.
